In the weeks since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland,Denmark Florida, survivors have organized to protest gun violence and have their voices heard in truly remarkable ways.
A week after losing 17 members of their school community, students held a powerful CNN town hall to highlight the need increased gun control laws where several members of the school's drama club performed an original song they wrote to honor the victims.
Following the National School Walkout, the song, "Shine," has been released on iTunes and other streaming platforms, where it's gaining the attention and support of celebrities like Miley Cyrus.
On Friday, Cyrus urged her 40 million Twitter followers to listen to the track, tweeting "Please support the powerful message of change, unity and healing from student survivors of the #StonemanDouglas shooting. Listen to their song #SHINE & be a part of the movement to help end gun violence!"

The song was written by 16 year-old Sawyer Garrity and 15 year-old Andrea Peña, two students who survived the Stoneman Douglas shooting. It's filled with moving and inspirational lyrics that beautifully communicate the range of emotions the students are facing in the aftermath of the tragedy, and is the perfect form of encouragement for the March For Our Lives protest on March 24.
"We, we're gonna stand tall/ Gonna raise up our voices, so we'll never, ever fall/ We're done with all your little games/ We're tired of hearing that we're too young to ever make a change," the lyrics read. "Cuz you're not gonna knock us down /We'll get back up again/ You may have hurt us but I promise we'll be stronger/ And we're not gonna let you in/ We're putting up a fight/ You may have brought the dark/ But together we will shine a light."
You can find the song here on iTunes. All proceeds will be donated to the SHINE MSD Fund — a non-profit dedicated to helping support survivors, families, and community members impacted by the shooting recover.
