A Game of Thronesfan posted a connection on Redditabout Hodor's first and final scenes in the HBO show, which will make you appreciate the gentle giant's selfless, and apparently foreshadowed, act from Episode 5 even more.
Quite_Operational noted that the first time we see Hodor in the series (Season 1, Episode 4) is when Theon calls on him to help a recently-crippled Bran out of bed and down the hall.
And the last thing we see Hodor doing for Bran? Helping him down a "hall" (of a tree-cave), as they are chased by an army of White Walkers.
But both times, Hodor obliges, and gets Bran to safety -- it was his fate all along.
