The dogs are between two and five years old, and have all been vaccinated and sterilised.
The canines will be released in four batches over the next two months to be rehabilitated. The first batch of 42 beagles arrived at Bengaluru's Hotel for Dogs a few days ago, and will be their home until they are adopted. The two organisations plan to hold regular adoption camps to screen potential adopters for the four batches. The dogs have already got an overwhelming response, with over 1,000 online applications from all over India.
Hotel for Dogs owner Adhishwar TA told Mashablethat the dogs had been restricted to small cages, with little exposure to sunlight and the outside world. They were also identified by numbers rather than names, and lack toilet training and many basic instincts. As a result, they need a lot of patience to learn how to trust people.
While adoptions outside Bengaluru are possible, but the organisations require adopters to visit the dogs at the centre and take them back home. Prospective adopters can apple with this online form.
