Art-loving Marvel fans will want to sit up and ass fucking moviestake note here: Mondo's got a bunch of cool Fantastic Four stuff coming your way.
Starting on Thursday, March 5, you'll be able to head over to MondoShop.com and choose from a selection of items inspired by Marvel's First Family – so named for being the first superhero team to spring from the minds of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
The new collection begins with a pair of limited edition posters, each of which will also have an even more limited variant. "Fantastic Four: Galactus," from artist Killian Eng, features the planet-eating cosmic entity that's not exactly a villain but also in no way a hero. The $50 full-color print will be available in an edition of 225; the $60 black-and-white variant will feature an edition of only 100. Both posters measure 24x36.
These posters should ship sometime in April.
The other pair of posters, titled "Fantastic Four: Silver Surfer," comes from artist Dániel Taylor. As the title suggests, these posters focus on the Silver Surfer, a frequent player in Fantastic Four stories who was first introduced in the comics as a herald of Galactus. The blue-tinted $50 version of Taylor's print will be available in an edition of 175 and the $75 variant, which splashes in some purple alongside the blue, will be available in an edition of 100.
These posters should ship sometime in May.
If you're familiar with Mondo's limited edition poster offerings then you don't need to hear this, but for everyone else: If you want any of these posters, you should keep an eye on both the Mondo Shop website and, more importantly, Mondo's Twitter feed. That's where new store offerings are usually announced, and limited edition stuff like this tends to sell out quickly.
If posters aren't your thing, perhaps you'd be interested in pins? Mondo will be releasing a full set of seven Fantastic Four pins, featuring the super-team's four heroes (Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing), as well as Galactus, the Surfer, and frequent Fantastic Four villain, Doctor Doom.
The pins and the pin cards they're affixed to were designed by Tom Whalen, to resemble the price card that used to appear on the covers of classic Marvel comics. All but one of the enamel pins will sell for $10 apiece; Galactus is a bit larger, so he'll sell for $13. The pins will start to ship in March.
Lastly, Mondo has something special for record-spinning Marvel fans: a slipmat. The double-sided felt creation, designed by Bruce Yan, sports the Fantastic Four logo on one side and Doctor Doom's face on the other, both in full color. The slipmat will sell for $12 and the ship timing Mondo provided is listed as "TBD."
Mondo has hosted Marvel characters and movies in various art releases over the years, but this is the first time the Fantastic Four has been featured. The lineup you see here is expected to be "the first of several" Fantastic Four-themed offerings from Mondo, so don't stress if you don't get the exact limited edition you want.
