The Movies | Movies free | Movies latest 2022news from the campaign trail isn't just delivered by the anchors you see on television. Before it's read aloud into an earpiece or scripted for a teleprompter, the day's headlines are identified and dispatched by a 20-something reporter often thousands miles away from the TV studio.

Instead of sitting at a desk, staring at Twitter or reading other news sites, a group of young journalists spend months working 20-hour days, walking through small towns and sleeping on buses. These "embeds" are the people who day by day watch and listen to the politicians and the people they speak to.

A new six-part showEmbeds, released with Complex Networks on Verizon's mobile streaming app go90,chronicles what it's like to cover a campaign, with a comedic flair. The series opens with one of the embeds in a threesome. The candidate is obsessed with spaghetti. A campaign staffer casually threatens the embeds with a vision of sharp objects.

"They are in charge of driving our coverage," said Katy Tur of NBC News. "Embeds are my heroes."

Speaking at the Made in NY Media Center in Dumbo, Brooklyn to dozens of former and current political reporters, actors and producers earlier this week, Tur described her time embedded on Donald Trump's presidential campaign trail.

"Most of us who followed Trump weren't ruling in out, but it's hard to measure unless you see it in person. The camera takes enthusiasm away," Tur said.

Embedswasn't based off of Trump's campaign, however. Series co-creators Scott Conroy and Peter Hamby had written the script back in 2012. They were both embedded in Sarah Palin's campaign for TV networks back in 2008.

"It's the hardest thing I've ever done. Just the physical grind of it," Conroy said.

That doesn't mean Embedsisn't enjoyable to watch.

"Even if you’re really sick of politics and really sick of Donald Trump, I think this show could be a nice escape," Conroy said.

Embedsis the latest scripted series on go90, which is Verizon's bet to distribute original video in the form of shows, sports and news to millennials via an app. The programming, created in association with Complex Networks, competes with Hulu, Netflix and YouTube.

"With a show like Embeds, you have an opportunity to program at television-level quality," said Shawn Strickland of Complex Networks. "The nice thing about the partners we have is the commitment to the space."

Still, go90 as a business has been floundering. Just last week, Verizon laid off 155 employees. The company portrayed the move as restructuring, since late last year Verizon acquired video service Vessel. The go90 team is now led by Richard Tom, who was Vessel's chief technology officer. Tom and co-creator Jason Kilar came from Hulu.

“While Go90 is a great place to distribute content to, where are the eyeballs?” said Eugene Lee, CEO of ChannelMeter, told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Verizon does not provide data on go90's audience, but looking at the three to seven comments left on Embeds, it's hard to believe engagement is that high.

Verizon has reported that go90 users spend 30 minutes on the app daily, according to the Chronicle.

The beauty of digital is that the content isn't going anywhere. "We'll look at how they perform in the go90 universe and relative to other projects. We’ll look at it the relative basis," Strickland said.

For Conroy and his team, which also included former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly and “Fifty Shades of Grey” producer Michael De Luca, partnering with Verizon and go90 was a great match.

Conroy, who is quite familiar working in media and being an embed having worked for years at CBS, said he was bullish on go90's potential. It allowed him to create the show they wanted to.

"If we had been in a network, from everything that I hear there would be a lot more input creatively. Verizon was great about letting us do our thing, and I think that paid off," Conroy said.

"The digital-first shows are not just Netflix and Amazon anymore. You can get great shows on Snapchat," he continued.

Indeed, his co-creator Hamby now works as head of news at Snap, the parent company of Snapchat.

"Peter told me when he was a reporter on CNN, no one ever recognized him on the street. Now people see him on the street and stop and say, 'The Snapchat guy.' I don’t think the legacy media understands the extent to which that has happened," he said.

Hamby will no longer be working in a formal role on the show, if it gains a second season.

Regardless of Embedsfuture, whether it takes them to a second season in New Hampshire or a third, Conroy said he wants embeds themselves to get more credit.

"I hope that this show makes the news media think to listen to the people that are not just in the cities. I think we listened too much about data journalism and pundits. I'm a big advocate of boots on the ground," he said. "I hope going forward we pay attention."
